Decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors
Decarbonizing industry is a global challenge — 25% of all emissions come from industrial activity, and demand for products from these sectors continues to rise.
So how can producers in hard-to-abate sectors like steel, concrete and aluminium production reach net zero emissions? And what role will the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) play in this future?
Carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) and carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) will be a key step. Replacing fossil fuels used in industrial production with green hydrogen will also cut emissions, as will the electrification of processes.
But it’s not all about technological solutions — a successful transition to greener energy will also require financial incentives and regulatory frameworks to spur the creation of end demand.
Watch this short video to discover what industry experts think we can do to make hard-to-abate sectors greener.
